Many
years ago I wrote a monthly column on marketing for DBA magazine
in Houston, Texas. I was never paid for it, but I received
lots of free publicity. And virtually every day I heard from
someone who read one of the articles and wanted to hire me for my
services. I quickly learned that writing articles was a great way to
win friends, influence people, attract new clients, and make more
money -- and lots of it.
Of course, that monthly article had limited visibility. Only business
people in and around Houston read it. As the title of one of my books
declares, "There's A Customer Born Every Minute" -- but they all
don't live in Houston.
I wanted to reach a wider market. I wanted to tap into new
streams of income. I wanted to reach the world.
That's when the Internet came along. At first, I was skeptical.
How could the Net make anyone any money?
Then, a friend of mine posted a few of my articles on CompuServe to
prove to me wrong. Within a few weeks my articles had been
downloaded several hundred times. I began to hear from people from
other parts of the world, such as Ireland, Australia, Africa. Frankly,
Houston was starting to bore me.
When Mark Joyner of Aesop Marketing published my
first e-book, Hypnotic Writing, one of his methods of promotion
was issuing articles. Mark would ask me to write him a fresh article,
and I would. Those articles were then sent to e-zines around the Net.
I was stunned at the results. My e-book sold like crazy and
became my best-selling e-book -- and it got me known around the Net.
In short, writing these articles brought me fame and fortune.
And they can do the same thing for you. Writing articles and submitting
them to online publications is one of the most effective ways to get
free advertising for your business.
Most e-zine and Web site publishers are
constantly looking for free, quality content to publish. All you
have to do is write them a short and sweet e-mail. Then grant them
permission to reprint your articles for free. Simply ad a
resource box to the end of the article, and you will make sales.
The resource box is key. This small ad includes the following info:
Your name, business name, e-mail address, Web site address, a brief
mention about your business, e-zine subscription address, auto-responder
address or a freebie.
And they really work. Your articles will usually pull more response
then your regular ads because people who like your article will want to
find out more about you. This will lead them to visit your Web site,
subscribe to your e-zine or e-mail your auto-responder -- and to buy
your products and services.
